CH Nova: seamless migration to a dedicated and managed infrastructure
The need for a more independent and efficient ecosystem
CH Nova was operating on an outdated VMware infrastructure that was becoming increasingly complex to manage. As the company grew, the need to migrate to a more agile and modern solution became urgent. However, the migration presented several challenges, including:
- Management of the existing infrastructure. The original infrastructure was managed indirectly, making a non-invasive approach with no operational risks necessary;
- Technical complexity. Some virtual machines dated back to 2008 and were running on obsolete Windows operating systems, with significant uncertainties during the restoration phase (automatic reconfigurations, potential conflicts);
- Business continuity. The company could not afford service interruptions during office hours; therefore, the migration had to take place within reduced and scheduled maintenance windows, including overnight;
- Future autonomy. CH Nova wanted to become autonomous in managing the new infrastructure, without constant dependence on external support.
Tinext Cloud’s solution: assessment, implementation and training
Tinext Cloud designed and guided a structured migration to HPE VM Essential, planning the three key steps of the project jointly with the customer’s team.
Phase 1: assessment and design
We conducted an in-depth assessment of the existing infrastructure, identifying critical systems, cluster size and potential migration risks. Based on this analysis, a detailed migration plan was designed, including timing, sequences and the necessary downtime windows.
Phase 2: technical migration and Managed IaaS
The migration was carried out using Veeam, a cross-platform tool that enables virtual machines to be migrated between different infrastructures. The tool was chosen because:
- It did not require exposing the original VMware infrastructure to risks or specific support requests;
- It was already familiar to the customer, eliminating the need for training from scratch;
- It enabled transparent restoration of the VMs on the new HPE VM Essential platform.
Each virtual machine underwent an extensive dry run before the final migration, in order to identify potential issues related to legacy operating systems, custom configurations or complex network elements.
Tinext Cloud thus set up a dedicated IaaS infrastructure on HPE VM Essential, fully managed. This approach freed CH Nova from the complexity of infrastructure management, allowing it to focus on creating and managing its own VMs for end customers.
Phase 3: training and autonomy
In parallel with the migration, we provided technical training that made the CH Nova team autonomous: the platform proved so intuitive and straightforward that, after the first guided migration batches, the customer was able to complete the process without further support.
“Migrating our VMware infrastructure was a delicate step, but the strategy planned jointly with Tinext Cloud eliminated the risks. Tinext Cloud’s managed IaaS solution, combined with the simplicity of HPE VM Essential, allowed us not only to migrate securely, but also to become autonomous in a very short time, freeing us from technical complexity”.
The results of the migration
CH Nova’s migration demonstrates that it is possible to evolve legacy infrastructures towards modern solutions while maintaining business continuity and reducing complexity. The combination of a simple platform such as HPE VM Essential, a robust migration tool such as Veeam, and structured change management support enables companies to scale without risks.
Migration completed without critical interruptions. All of CH Nova’s virtual machines were successfully migrated to HPE VM Essential. The intelligent management of maintenance windows (overnight and during weekends) ensured total business continuity during office hours.
- Modern and scalable infrastructure. CH Nova now has a modern, dedicated infrastructure fully managed by Tinext Cloud. This has enabled the company to offer its customers more reliable and scalable services.
- Operational autonomy. Thanks to the simplicity of the HPE VM Essential platform and the training received, CH Nova is now able to create and manage its own virtual machines independently, without relying on external support for routine operations.
- Reduced complexity. By eliminating the direct management of the virtualised infrastructure, CH Nova has been able to significantly reduce its internal operational workload and focus its resources on its core business.
For technology startups such as CH Nova that provide infrastructure services to their customers, this architecture frees up valuable resources to reinvest in innovation and growth.
