Azimut Switzerland: from on-premises management to a Private Cloud ecosystem for operational resilience

From the very beginning of the collaboration, Azimut Switzerland’s goal was clear: to rely on Tinext Cloud to simplify, consolidate, and modernize its IT infrastructure by migrating to a Private Cloud environment capable of delivering the highest standards in performance, security, and data governance.

When Azimut Switzerland approached Tinext Cloud at the end of 2023, its IT infrastructure was entirely on-premises.

The physical servers lacked flexibility, occupied valuable office space, and required constant maintenance. This translated into high operational costs, risks of downtime, and growing challenges in maintaining the high security standards required of financial institutions under the prudential supervision of FINMA.

Migration to the Private Cloud

The first step was the complete migration of the on-premises infrastructure to the Private Cloud, removing all physical server components from Azimut Switzerland’s offices.
The virtual machines previously running on the company’s hardware were replicated and migrated progressively through advanced replication systems, ensuring service continuity and zero operational disruption.

This Private Cloud approach brought a dual benefit:

  • Economic and operational efficiency – eliminating the need for on-premises servers reduced costs linked to hardware replacement and maintenance;
  • Consolidation and optimization of virtual servers – workloads were not only migrated but also right-sized and optimized in terms of number and resources;
  • Network streamlining and performance improvement – legacy connections were decommissioned, enhancing overall connectivity performance and redundancy.

Moreover, the new environment provides greater reliability and security, thanks to a resilient infrastructure located in Switzerland and managed by a team of certified experts with decades of experience in enterprise systems, networking, and data center management.

In 2024, Azimut Switzerland extended its collaboration with Tinext Cloud to include ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of virtual machines and workplace management, consolidating operations and monitoring under a single trusted partner.

An integrated security ecosystem powered by Fortinet

With existing security contracts approaching expiration, Azimut Switzerland was seeking a solution better aligned with its operational and compliance needs — one capable of offering an integrated cybersecurity ecosystem within a broader framework of operational risk governance (ICT strategy, change management, run-maintenance, and incident response).

Tinext Cloud redesigned the client’s security strategy, adopting a uniform and fully managed architecture built on the Fortinet ecosystem.

The new security framework includes:

  • Next-generation firewall protection for both cloud and on-premises networks;
  • Advanced e-mail protection with dynamic antispam services;
  • Comprehensive endpoint management and protection (AV and EDR);
  • SOC-as-a-Service and MDR (Managed Detection & Response) for continuous monitoring, analysis, and incident response.

The SOC-as-a-Service operates 24/7/365, analyzing network traffic, logs, and endpoint behavior in real time. Any anomalies generated by one or more endpoints are investigated by the MDR service, a team of highly specialized cybersecurity experts. When an event is confirmed as a real threat, Tinext Cloud intervenes promptly to mitigate the issue and strengthen the client’s overall security posture.

Each endpoint covered by the service is continuously evaluated based on its risk level, determined by multiple factors such as missing patches, outdated software, known vulnerabilities, domain group membership, virus presence, or OS version. A risk tag is assigned to each device, allowing other elements in the ecosystem to recognize its security level and enable or restrict access accordingly. In case of significant risk, the device can be isolated automatically to contain any potential threat propagation.

The Fortinet Security Fabric thus creates an integrated ecosystem where all components, such as firewalls, endpoints, authentication, and analytics, communicate seamlessly, improving visibility, simplifying management, and eliminating overlap.

This approach provides enterprise-grade protection typically reserved for large corporations, yet at a cost structure accessible to mid-sized organizations.

Intelligent access management for external providers

Another key requirement for the financial institution was securing remote access for third-party providers to ensure full compliance. Tinext Cloud implemented a centralized authentication management system featuring multi-factor authentication (MFA) and dynamic one-time tokens.

This provides a self-service platform for managing external supplier accounts, enhancing procedural security while simplifying access control. As a result, Azimut can now manage third-party access with full transparency and traceability, without relying on manual credential sharing.

Enterprise-level security, accessible to SMEs

Having both a 24/7 Security Operations Center and an endpoint detection and response team represents a level of service rarely available to local organizations.
Swiss mid-sized enterprises typically cannot maintain night or holiday coverage, but thanks to the integration between Tinext Cloud and Fortinet, Azimut Switzerland now benefits from round-the-clock protection, including forensic analysis, alarm triage, and periodic reporting.

During regular meetings, Tinext Cloud translates detailed reports into clear, actionable executive summaries, enabling data-driven decisions, policy updates, and continuous improvement plans.

Beyond the technical aspects, Tinext Cloud provides Azimut with ongoing strategic consultancy through a CIO-as-a-Service (CIOaaS) model — a solution that allows companies to outsource CIO-level functions without the cost or complexity of a full-time internal position.

The result: empowered efficiency, security, and governance

In just two years of collaboration, Azimut Switzerland has completely transformed its IT infrastructure into a modern, secure, and centrally managed Cloud ecosystem.

Today, the company benefits from:

  • Reduced operational costs,
  • Improved resilience and service continuity,
  • Full compliance with evolving financial regulations,
  • Streamlined IT governance through a single trusted partner.

The journey with Tinext Cloud has made Azimut Switzerland’s IT not only more efficient but also more aligned with its business goals, flexible, secure, and ready to support future growth.
